Bill Keating has long been a champion for a cleaner, healthier environment. As a Massachusetts state senator, Keating wrote and helped pass the state's Safe Water Act, which protects lakes and ponds from chemical pollution. This leadership led the Environmental League of Massachusetts to name him Environmental Legislator of the Year. Keating, a former Norfolk County district attorney, has been a stalwart defender of clean energy projects like Cape Wind on Nantucket Sound, which is poised to become America's first offshore wind farm. Keating takes the seat representing Cape Cod and areas South of Boston that was held since 1997 by Bill Delahunt, a Democrat who retires with an impressive 90% LCV lifetime score.
In his own words:
"I am committed to the use of clean renewable sources of energy so that we can reduce our dependence on fossil fuels, create new jobs, and enhance our environmental security. I'll fight to ensure that our automobiles are fuel efficient and work hard to pass sensible legislation."
