LCV Action Fund Endorses Chris Coons for Election to the U.S. Senate

Washington, DC - The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, today announced its endorsement of Chris Coons for election to the U.S. Senate seat left vacant by Vice President Joe Biden.

"LCV Action Fund is proud to endorse Chris Coons for the U.S. Senate because he understands that the policies needed to grow Delaware's economy and keep America's competitive edge are the same policies that will reduce our dependence on foreign oil and curb harmful carbon pollution," said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski. "We are confident that as Senator, Chris Coons will work to enact common-sense energy policies that create jobs in Delaware while ensuring that America leads the 21st century's clean energy economy."

Coons has pledged his support for comprehensive clean energy and climate legislation in order to reduce our dependence on foreign oil and curb global warming pollution. He supports and will encourage clean energy programs like wind farming off the shore of Delaware.[1]

As New Castle County Executive, Coons committed New Castle County to the Cities for Climate Protection (CCP) Campaign. As part of this campaign he took steps to reduce the county's energy consumption and increase energy efficiency. As Senator, Coons has committed to supporting national policies that achieve these same goals.[2]

"I am pleased to have the endorsement of the League of Conservation Voters. In Washington, I'll fight to help reduce our dependence on foreign oil, help pass legislation to combat the effects of global climate change and promote real alternative energy sources like wind and solar. I look forward to working as a U.S. Senator and addressing these very important economic and national security issues," said Chris Coons.

Coons' opponent Christine O'Donnell is currently on LCV's Dirty Dozen list.[3] O'Donnell prioritizes expanding the failed dirty energy policies of the past over growing Delaware's clean energy economy and has pledged to block comprehensive clean energy and climate legislation if elected.
