LCV Action Fund Endorses Donna Edwards for Re-Election in Maryland’s 4th District
WASHINGTON, DC - The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, today announced its endorsement of Donna Edwards (MD-4) for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives. Rep. Edwards has a perfect 100% LCV lifetime environmental score.*
“Congresswoman Edwards consistently supports measures that work to ensure America leads in the creation of the 21st century’s clean energy economy,” said LCV President Gene Karpinski. “We are proud to endorse Congresswoman Edwards for re-election because she understands that the policies needed to build a clean energy economy that puts Americans back to work will at the same time reduce our dependence on foreign oil and curb harmful global warming pollution.”
Rep. Edwards voted for the House-passed American Clean Energy and Security Act that would help create over 26,000 clean energy jobs in Maryland**, reduce carbon pollution and increase energy independence. She also supported the single largest investment in clean energy in history – more than $80 billion for energy efficiency, renewable energy and public transit in the economic recovery package, with substantial investments going to Maryland’s 4th district to promote improvements in smart grid technologies and public transportation.
"I am proud to earn the endorsement of an organization as dedicated to the preservation of our environment as the League of Conservation Voters," said Congresswoman Donna F. Edwards. "Building a clean energy, 21st century economy is critical to the long-term health and viability of this nation, and I look forward to continue working with the LCV in that effort."
“Representative Donna Edwards has brought her passion and intelligence to the many significant environmental problems facing our nation and Maryland,” said Cindy Schwartz, Executive Director of the Maryland League of Conservation Voters. “During her term, she has worked to promote smart growth, improve public transportation and restore the Chesapeake Bay. With Maryland being the third most vulnerable state to the impacts of climate change we look forward to her continued leadership on this critical issue.”
LCV was among the first organizations to endorse Edwards’s challenge to incumbent Al Wynn in the February Democratic primary election in 2008. Rep. Edwards is also featured on LCVAF’s GiveGreen website, http://lcv.org/givegreen, the only bundling website devoted exclusively to raising money for environmental champions and candidates.
