LCV Action Fund Endorses Heath Shuler for Re-election in North Carolina’s 11th District
Washington, DC - The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, today announced its endorsement of Heath Shuler (NC-11) for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives. Rep. Shuler earned an impressive 86% on LCV’s 2009 National Environmental Scorecard and has a commendable 77% LCV lifetime environmental score.*
“Congressman Shuler has quickly become an important advocate for ensuring that America leads the 21st century’s clean energy economy,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski. “We are proud to endorse Congressman Shuler for re-election because he supports policies that will not only build a clean energy economy that gets North Carolina’s workers back on the job, but will also reduce our dangerous dependence on foreign oil and curb global warming pollution.”
Rep. Shuler’s support was crucial to the passage of the American Clean Energy and Security Act (ACES). In the 110th Congress, he supported the Renewable Energy and Job Creation Act of 2008. This piece of legislation would expand $18 billion in tax credits for improving energy efficiency and producing renewable energy. He also supported The Omnibus Public Land Management Act of 2009, which designated more than two million acres of public lands as wilderness and more than 1,000 miles of national wild and scenic rivers.**
Rep. Shuler is devoted to making a real commitment to renewable and sustainable energy in hopes of utilizing these sources as a means of 20% of the nation’s electricity. Through his dedication to clean energy, Rep. Shuler aims to lower our nation’s dependence on foreign oil and help stimulate our economy through the creation of new energy jobs.***
“I am honored to receive the endorsement of the League of Conservation Voters, one of the leading environmental organizations in the country,” said Congressman Shuler. “We have a moral obligation to protect the environment for our children and grandchildren, which means taking steps to mitigate climate change, ending our dependence on foreign oil, and investing in a clean energy economy which will create jobs right here at home. I am proud that my work on these issues has met the LCV’s rigorous standards for endorsement.”
Rep. Shuler is also featured on LCVAF’s GiveGreen website, http://lcv.org/givegreen, the only bundling website devoted exclusively to raising money for environmental champions and candidates.
