LCV Action Fund Endorses Martin Heinrich for Re-Election in New Mexico’s 1st District
Washington, DC - The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, today announced its endorsement of Martin Heinrich (NM-01) for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives. Rep. Heinrich received a perfect 100% score on LCV’s 2009 National Environmental Scorecard, his first rating as a member of Congress.*
“Congressman Heinrich has been an outstanding leader during his first term in ensuring that America leads the 21st century’s clean energy economy,” said LCV President Gene Karpinski. “We are proud to endorse Congressman Heinrich for re-election because he understands that the policies needed to build a clean energy economy that puts New Mexicans back to work will at the same time reduce our dependence on foreign oil and curb harmful global warming pollution.”
As president of the freshman Democratic caucus, Heinrich played a crucial role in rallying support for the American Clean Energy and Security Act, authoring a letter in June 2009 encouraging his fellow freshmen to support the bill, which would help create 11,000 clean energy jobs in New Mexico. Rep. Heinrich’s role as a champion on environmental issues is further demonstrated by his membership in the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition and his steadfast defense of the Clean Air Act against ongoing pressure to undermine its authority in regulating global warming pollution.
"I am proud and honored to be supported by LCV and Conservation Voters New Mexico," said Heinrich. "As a nation, we must be committed to making America more energy independent while protecting the environment. Investments in clean and renewable energy create quality jobs here in New Mexico and propel American ingenuity for a brighter economic future.”
Rep. Heinrich also supported the single largest investment in clean energy in history: more than $80 billion for energy efficiency, renewable energy and public transit in the economic recovery package, with substantial investments going to job-creating clean energy and energy efficiency projects in New Mexico’s 1st district.
"New Mexicans care deeply about our communities and environment, and the legacy we will leave our children and grandchildren," said Leanne Leith, Political Director of Conservation Voters New Mexico. "Martin Heinrich shares these values and fights for them every day in Congress. We're lucky to have him representing us."
