LCV Applauds Election of Chris Coons to U.S. Senate, Defeat of Christine O’Donnell

DELAWARE — Today, the League of Conservation Voters (LCV), which works to turn environmental values into national priorities, celebrated the election of Chris Coons to the U.S. Senate and the defeat of Dirty Dozen member Christine O'Donnell.

"LCV congratulates Chris Coons on his election to the U.S. Senate," said LCV President Gene Karpinski. "Chris Coons supports efforts to bring new clean energy jobs to Delaware and make America less dependent on oil, and LCV is thrilled that as Senator he will be able to push for clean energy reforms in the 112th Congress. Christine O'Donnell, on the other hand, fiercely opposed comprehensive clean energy policies that would create jobs and reduce pollution – and Delaware voters responded by rejecting O'Donnell's extreme views."

Delaware campaign highlights:

  • Total contributed and raised for Coons: $5,413.34 [1]
  • As part of its "Eagles" program, LCV placed a full-time staffer on the Coons campaign.[1]

LCV, and its connected political committees LCV Action Fund and LCV Victory Fund, spent $5.5 million electing pro-environment candidates in the 2010 election cycle. Additionally, LCV Action contributed or raised more than $1.3 million for pro-environment candidates – the most ever contributed or raised by the organization in an election cycle.
