LCV Applauds Re-Election of Sen. Harry Reid, Defeat of Sharron Angle
NEVADA — Today, the League of Conservation Voters (LCV), which works to turn environmental values into national priorities, celebrated the re-election of Senator Harry Reid and the defeat of Dirty Dozen member Sharron Angle.
"LCV congratulates Senator Reid on his re-election to the U.S. Senate," said LCV President Gene Karpinski. "As Senate Majority Leader, Senator Reid has championed efforts to bring new clean energy jobs to Nevada and make America less dependent on oil, and LCV is thrilled that he will be able to continue this good work in the 112th Congress. Sharron Angle, on the other hand, proudly rejected the sound and settled science that man-made carbon pollution contributes to climate change — and Nevada voters responded by rejecting Angle's extreme views."
Nevada campaign highlights:
LCV, and its connected political committees LCV Action Fund and LCV Victory Fund, spent $5.5 million electing pro-environment candidates in the 2010 election cycle. Additionally, LCV Action contributed or raised more than $1.3 million for pro-environment candidates — the most ever contributed or raised by the organization in an election cycle.
